Going the Distance

In recent memory the San Francisco 49ers have not lived up to expectations of Super Bowl glory which was achieved five times in the history of the team, let alone reaching playoff contention. In The 2005 NFL Draft the 49ers 1st overall pick was quarterback Alex Smith out of Utah State, over Cal QB Aaron Rodgers who was selected 24th by the Greenbay Packers who actually was a Niners fan. Imagine that! What the 49ers didn't realize until 2008, when Rodgers took over for Brett Farve, that they picked the wrong guy. Alex Smith had already gone through four different offensive coordinators and had not mounted to anything at all but 7-9 record at his best, but Rodgers took off like a rocket mounting 4,038 passing yards and 28 touchdowns in '08. It was hard to be a fan back then knowing what we could've had but didn't get it. So speculation started to happen on weather or not Alex was a bust, so far it looked as though but then came Mike Singletary, Samari Mike as they called him when he played for the Chicago Bears and he as the Super Bowl rings to back the nickname up with. He was suppose to turn around the 49ers franchise and restore it to former glory, but what happened in stead was two seasons of nothing but inconsistency and doubt only having at best an 8-8 record. What Singletary did though was set the foundations to what could be the best team in the NFL. The  49ers had all of the right pieces just not the right place. All they needed was a hot head nut out of Stanford named Jim Harbaugh.
